German Wood Carver

Saturday, June 27, 2015

We've heard so much about this wood carver that we were excited to finally make this visit to Johannesberg. Almost every place that we go on Saturdays is within 1 1/2 hours from Frankfurt.
Manfred Sauer is the 3rd generation of wood carvers, however, the business is known by his father's name, Toni Sauer.

The displays on three floors of the wood shop is a museum in itself! The figurines are exquisitely carved and, can be purchased either in natural wood or painted.
I got this picture from their website of a sewing group, so it didn't come out very clear.

Dozens and dozens of nativity sets are set up on display all year long.
For those of you who know of the huge collection of nativities we have at home, I was in heaven here! It was breathtaking!!!

Evidently missionaries have been frequenting this shop for many years. Some who have been released from their missionare still call to order items from him.

Goodbye.
