Worms, Germany - (pronounced Vohms)

An impressive entrance to the city of Worms, as we cross the Rhein River!
I love the outdoor markets, always on Saturdays no matter the weather or season. Vendors sell: fresh vegetables, fruits, flowers, cheeses, meats plus crafts and other things.
These markets are usually set up in the main town plaza.
Here's a popular vendor: wein (wine, pronounced vine).
Several people sat around this monument enjoying their wine break (in glass goblets).
A European picnic after the shopping is done.
We've seen several cities/villages with themes: wild board, frogs, cows.
Worms is a city of dragons.
According to tradition, the name derives from when the legendary hero Siegfried slew a lindworm (dragon) near the city, as recounted in the Nibelungenlied.[2]
This explains the city's name.
The monument in the stadtplatz (city plaza) depicts Siegfried, the dragon slayer.
Outside of the bank. A dragon piggy bank....see the Euro?
Have you ever heard of a Aesculopius Dragon?
This one was spectacular!
A large portion of the old city wall still exists.
Evidence of years of efforts to preserve & restore the city wall.
It is interesting to see how the new buildings are incorporated into the old city wall.
The city has crowded up right next to the cathedral, so it is hard to get a view of the whole thing.
St. Steven's Cathedral or St Martin's Cathedral, I forgot which.
Beautiful cathedral door.
After finally locating the Jewish museum, we found it to be closed because Saturday is their Sabbath. Beautiful gate though.
Martin Luther really traveled throughout Germany because he is honored in a number of cities. He left his mark in Worms, too!
This is where he was declared a heretic, but evidently was later found to have made valuable contributions to the world because he is honored with a very nice monument.
Martin Luther monument.
Flowers and tour groups are everywhere we go. It does us no good to listen in because it is usually given in German.
To top off the day, a stop in Mainz.
A Mexican dinner (plus ice water) is always enjoyed by American missionaries!
