Apple Picking in Karben
Friday, October 16, 2015
After work at the office on Friday we went with E/S Ryser to Karben, about 20 minutes from Frankfurt to the home of E/S Berkhahn.
They wanted to share the apples on their tree with us because they don't have the time to take care of them.
We have really missed working in our garden this year.
Ken enjoyed picking apples, too!
Elder Ryser is the Area Medical Advisor.
Sister Ryser and I collecting our goods!
We have both been passing the apples out to the other missionaries and took some to the Ward party on Saturday. In fact, on Sunday the nursery leader forgot to bring treats for the children so because some were still left from the party the night before, they were able to have apples for the nursery treats!
After living in an apartment building for the last 8 months, it was nice to be in a real home with a beautiful yard!
Meet Max, the lawnmower robot. After his job is done, he obediently returns to his docking station for the night!
Look at this beautiful illustration of their family tree, including crests!
After we picked apples, the Berkhahns invited us to stay to share hot chocolate and apple strudel!
The Berkhahns have four children and almost nine grandchildren. She plays the cello. They have a long history of service in the Church in Germany, including working with President Uchtdorf for many years. Elder Berkhahn has served as stake president, mission president, temple president, Church employment as Director of Temporal Affairs in the Area Office, and now they are serving a mission as Executive Secretary to the Area Presidency.
It was a fun evening spending time with these two wonderful couples!
